Isaac Newton made a study of color starting at the age of 23 in 1666 and developed the useful Newton color circle . He realized that some colors (magenta, purple) could not be produced as spectral colors. One of his contributions was the idea that white light is light containing all wavelengths of the visible spectrum. He demonstrated this fact with experiments on the dispersion of light in glass prisms.
As a child I can remember getting so excited over all the colors in the Crayola crayon box!
My favorite
was the ‘large’ size with 84 different colors.. Did you have the same thrill over checking out all the colors? These days the boxes contain 120 colors. I envy the children that get to play with that many colors.
Since I grew up in the ‘olden days’ I remember black and white Television. One of my favorite shows was Star Trek. Black and white did not allow me to see the various uniform colors.

My favorite color is green. Closely followed by blue, pink, and purple. I guess I like them all!
I guess you DO like them all! thanks for sharing!
I used to be sure boring, liking all shades of beige.
Now I Love colour, my favourite colour is definitely purple, my happy colour.
Another purple lover. Yippee!
Love it! My favorite color is blue, indigo, followed by pink and purple. I love the necklace featured at the bottom of this article. It has such beautiful colors throughout.
thanks so much Tandy. It sounds like you love the warmer colors the best. Pink is a great addition though.
What a beautiful piece of art you created! I have a friend who makes skin care products and sent her your blog. The way you designed it and teach us is amazing.
As far as color goes, I am really sensitive (not emotionally) and color affects me a lot. My home is three shades of muted gold to allow for rest at the end of the day. Some people come alive with lots of color, but I tend to do better with colors that are restful.
I can tell by your posts you are a positive person. This energy I’m sure will also be found in your jewelry.
thanks for the great compliment Candess! I do feel that my energy and passion is reflected in each of my designs. In fact the design is never completed until I ‘feel’ it. I have been known to tear designs apart and start over if they dont speak to me
Beautiful explanation of color and corresponding emotions. Simple is best. I also learned a new to me word – dichroic glass: Multiple ultra-thin layers of different metals (such as gold or silver); oxides of such metals as titanium, chromium, aluminium, zirconium, or magnesium; or silica are vaporised by an electron beam in a vacuum chamber.
As for a favorite color, it can change throughout the day. I feel like a mood ring – only in full body alignment. I recognize where the emotions are and can perceive the color that resonates.
I do remember the big box of 84 crayolas. My most favorite back then was cornflower. I had to keep looking at the name because I could not imagine why that name to that crayola.
Thanks so much Celea. I don’t remember the cornflower color. They still do pick strange names for new colors. There must be a committee somewhere that decides?
My favorite color has always been green. Still love it. Second is shades of orange and rust. I love that necklace!
Thanks Carol. You won the $40 gift card from last week. Did you get that notice yesterday?
Being an artist, I LOVE color in many ways. Turquoise is my favorite! This is a fun article,
Thanks to a fellow artist> I love turquoise myself..and purple
I think it does speak to my personality. I love indigo and yellow and white even though I am also innovative which is one characteristic if RED.
Indigo, yellow and white combine well together. Thanks for sharing. Thanks Apolline!
Love the article! I love lots of color, and mixing color. Wonder where that makes me fit? Love orange and blue, and then pick an accessory and tie together. Split personality:)
I would call it Bery Creative! Sounds like fun to figure out accessories to tie two colors together. Thanks!
When I think of my favorite color it’s orange – my favorite office was painted tangerine – LOVED it! When I think of what I like to wear I think purple or fun shades of blue and green.
Hi Brenda Orange is a very happy color! Thanks for sharing
I do like color.. but not too much at once. I will also say that I loved that jewelry piece at the bottom with the color pendant.. sooo pretty!
My daughter was into color blocking when it was a thing but I could never get into it. lol
Thanks Kristen what is color blocking exactly? I remember years ago getting my colors done. For wardrobes. Is that the same?
My favorite color is purple so I would say it’s pretty accurate. Thanks for the breakdown on color!
Hi Indira. Appreciate it! Purple is towards the top of my list too
I love this presentation as I like art. In addition, I also like feng shui. It just so happened that my favorite color is green and that is my lucky color as I was born in a year where the element is wood.
thanks Lori. Cool that your favorite and lucky color are the same!
