Yes I love Arizona almost as much as I love to design jewelry. I moved to this awe inspiring state almost 30 years ago. I haven’t regretted it for even one moment. Yes we have the scorching hot weather in the summer. Yet the trade off is NO MORE SNOW AND ICE! Plus if I decide to escape the heat, we are only 3 hours from Flagstaff (which does get snow in the winter) and only an hour by plane to San Diego.

Yep. it’s the only way to describe a trip to Tucson for the once a year Gem Shows event.

I use the plural for shows because there are virtually 43 different shows during this 3 week time frame (late January through mid February) Each show highlights different products. Some specialize in tools and equipment, while others are known for their precious gems. Even more feature beads and cabochons or large rocks that can be made into gems by a lapidary.

Every potential venue in Tucson is Full this time of year. Just try getting a hotel room and you will soon find that this is true!

over time I have narrowed myself to 2 shows that feature primarily cabochons and beads.

Today I saw something that brought back memories of my Mom. A Facebook post was highlighting a craft that my Mom used to do. She has left us almost 20 years ago now but her essence is still part of my being.

Mom was a highly creative person who spent her lifetime imagining and making so many crafts. I grew up in this environment so it is no wonder that I chose the arts (jewelry design) to express myself.

Recently I chose to use my Mom’s costume jewelry to create a memento for each of the women in our family. Each design includes some of my creation too

Cherishing a piece of jewelry that belonged to a recent relative or long past ancestor is one way to help keep the memories alive.

My wish is that my jewelry will be the catalyst to bring back cherished memories to your children, grandchildren and beyond.

Wearing rings of any size or shape is so much fun, don’t you agree?

Rings have been found in tombs dating back to 2500 BC. Many cultures fashioned their rings from stone. Others used metal and added gemstones. Sound familiar? One of the favorite designs for the Ancient Romans was a thick hoop that had an gemstone embedded right into the metal. This flush design is still popular today.

For me I love designing a more bold look. I adore it when the gemstone takes center stage and sits atop the shank.

The perfect gemstone colors for fall, don’t you agree? I discovered this gem a few years ago while shopping at the Tucson Gem show. Instant love!

The color range includes hunter green, bright orange, burgundy red, caramel , and soft yellow. This provides me with endless design options.

Red creek jasper is also known as Cherry Creek Jasper.  The gem hails from Mainland China.. from the cherry creek and the red creek mines. Easy to see how they got the name isn’t it?

Jasper that features lots of deep reddish tones is said to provide balance and relaxation. WE all need a that don’t we? See all of my designs here

This is one of my favorite pendants.  You can clearly see the hunter green colors in this piece.

Ever heard of the color Marsala?  I had not. These days new names keep emerging for color blends. (very hard to keep up) This one is named after a wine.

Turns out Marsala is a blend of brown and red.  So pretty!  Here is a swatch to show you. Officially it is PMS 18-1438. (just in case you were wondering!)

Here is the detail the Pantone site offers:

• Equally appealing to men and women, Marsala is a stirring and flavorful shade for apparel and accessories, one that encourages color creativity and experimentation
