Do you remember this sentiment from the Wizard of Oz?[tweet_dis_img][/tweet_dis_img]
Dorothy is frantically trying to get home when the good witch tells her that the red slippers she is wearing will do the trick.
You had the power all along, Dorothy!
I am interacting with other bloggers and have listened to several tutorials from Boom Social . The focus is on creating a successful blog.
Something was mentioned in one of the tutorials that resonates with me. Creating a successful blog requires talents we already possess. We have our own personality, (that no one else can claim) our own perspective on life.. and most of all we want to succeed!
Simple right? However this hit me like a ton of bricks! You see I spent the last 30 years creating and building my successful Promotional Marketing business. Many of the skills I learned and perfected over the years can help me! I already know:
-
The importance of building long term relationships.
-
How to create new opportunities.
-
Making my business fun.
-
Treating my clients with fairness and integrity.
-
And finally offering over-the-top customer service.
Realizing that I can apply these same principals to my social media and jewelry designing projects feels like someone lifted a huge weight off me. I absolutely LOVE designing my jewelry and I love sharing this with others. [/tweet_box] Start thinking about the Power you possess.
What skills have you already mastered during your lifetime?
-
Event Planning: what about that theme or dinner party you hosted? or the school event you coordinated?
-
Do you volunteer for an organization?
-
Balancing the household finances?
-
Dabbling in crafts?
Every one of these things.. and more have provided you with skills and opportunities.
So I say… Whoopee for me and you too! we are all amazing, powerful and successful people!
Jennifer Quisenberry says
Indeed! The one thing that each of us have going for us is ourselves! No one else can bring that to the table! 🙂
Alene Geed says
Well said Jennifer ?
Sabrina Quairoli says
No matter if we want to or not we learn. So, when we modify or change our business or homelife activities, we use our existing skills to make the process easier and less stressful. We just need to eliminate the self doubt part of the process.
Alene Geed says
So true Sabrina. Often we let doubt halt our successes
Susan Mary Malone says
I love how you put this together, Alene! It’s funny–I’ve blogged a long time for my editorial website, and although I give a ton of value, it never quite felt like “me.” When I started doing so as an author, ah, now did that feel completely different! Because it pulled from who I am. Love the Deepak quote too!
Alene Geed says
Yes I agree. I like how you mention ‘not feeling like me’. Therein lies the answer. If we are acting from within we ARE being ourselves.
Renee groskreutz says
This is so fantastic and right on. We need to play up our strengths instead of trying to fix our weaknesses.
Alene Geed says
Amen to that. We can source out for the areas where we are weak!
Carol Rundle says
What a great perspective! So many times we go into new ventures thinking we have to start all over, but it’s not true. We take ourselves with us, and we know what we can do. Good post!
Alene Geed says
thanks so much Carol. Sometimes it helps to be reminded that we ALL have skills from previous ‘lives’
Tamuria says
It can be so easy to overlook our hidden talents. I did a TAFE course several years ago and the whole focus was putting to money making use all the skills we tend to take for granted. It was so eye opening. Yes, we do have the power just like Dorothy did. Love the Deepak quote.
Alene Geed says
thank you so much Tamuria. It is amazing what we can discover about ourselves when we relax into our greatness.
Christy Soukhamneut says
Recognizing our own innate goodness is a beautiful skill. Thank you for this reminder.
Alene Geed says
most Welcome Christy.
Erin says
What a wonderful reminder that we are all unique and can’t be duplicated! I think the “comparison” bug often bites us and we forget our gifts and talents are pretty spectacular!
Alene Geed says
Thanks Erin. I love your terminology ‘comparison bug’ is perfectly stated!
Robin says
Funny, this is something I have been coming to understand as well. Still a work in process, but seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks for validating this for me!

Reba Linker says
Great post, Alene. It is sometimes so hard to realize that we have everything it takes. Dorothy is the perfect metaphor. Beautiful post. I’m glad you’ve rediscovered your marketing super powers!
Alene Geed says
‘Marketing super powers’ never thought of it that way but it is true. Thanks!
Cyndi says

Beverley Golden says
It’s wonderful to come to an ‘aha’ and to realize that ‘we had the power(s) all along” and that they can be used in many of the areas of our lives that excite and interest us! The key for me is always in building relationships and of course those relationships ultimately move across perceived borders. People who like my writing and the info I share, are equally interested in what I have to offer in the health and wellness arena. Same for you it sounds like, Alene, with your jewelry and your social media/marketing interests! How wonderful and fun to discover this and then put it into action! Enjoy!
Alene Geed says
Thanks Beverley. I love that you mention relationships moving across perceived borders. Once someone knows, likes and trusts us the shift to a different business is seamless

Jackie Harder says
Excellent points, Alene. I tell my job-seeking clients that they have many transferable skills that they are not even aware of…and many of those have their roots in their personal lives. Good stuff!
Alene Geed says
Thanks Jackie appreciate the feedback. We do tend to forget that we have developed lots of skills during our lifetime
Joyce Hansen says
You are right on the button, Alene. Skills I acquired years ago and thought I would never use again are coming in handy today. We need to give ourselves more credit for what we know and can do when challenged. Thanks for reminding us.
